The provincial government of NWFP has decided to initiate Emergency Rescue Services 1122 in Peshawar City as well as extend it to all Divisional Headquarters after its successful implementation. The German organisation GTZ has assured to provide technical support and will cater all needs of this centre to reduce the human and property losses to the minimum level in case of any terror or other incidents in the city.
The provincial government has allocated Rs 188 million for this project wherein 10 ambulances equipped with all latest facilities of first aid, fire brigade and 90 trained and skilled staff will be available round the clock while any citizen from any part of the city can benefit from its emergency services within a short time of seven minutes by calling to the toll free number 1122 from his telephone or mobile set.
The Directorate of Information Technology has provided latest facilities of computers and communications to its control room near old Haji Camp on G.T.Road. It was revealed in a meeting chaired by the Pukhtoonkhwa Senior Minister and Parliamentary leader of ANP Bashir Ahmad Bilour at his office Civil Secretariat Peshawar that was attended by the Provincial Secretary LG&RD Hifzur Rehman, DCO Peshawar Sahibzada Mohammad Anees, Director General LG&RD Haji Abdul Jaleel and Project Director Rescue 1122 Dr Shamsul Haq as well as Christian Muller, Principal Advisor GTZ and Regional Director Kamran Khan who highlighted the various aspects of the project and progress made so far.
Bashir Bilour while appreciating the speedy progress on this vital project asked for centralising the services of Sui gas, Wapda, telephone, health, police and all other departments of federal and provincial governments under one window to streamline its working and efficiency.
He expressed the confidence that the centre would be the high example of inter departmental co-ordination in the province for the humanity and services of the citizens. He also directed for providing fire-brigade vehicles at all the four towns of Peshawar to support the emergency services. It was decided that the Senior Minister Bashir Bilour will lead a six members delegation to Germany for improving the emergency services.
However, on regrets of the Senior Minister to avoid foreign trips on government expenses due to financial constraints of the province, the German organisation announced his foreign tour by its own expenses. The other members of the delegation included Provincial Chief Secretary Javed Iqbal, Director PDMA Shakeel Qadir, Commissioner Hazara Waqar Ayub and Project Director Rescue 1122 Dr Shamsul Haq.
Bashir Bilour said that the federal government will also establish a separate trauma hospital in Peshawar for which the initial grant of Rs 1 billion has been set aside that would help in reducing rush on three big hospitals of the provincial metropolis.
