Sindh Medical Faculty Karachi has given approval for seats to Institute of Infectious Diseases (IID) in the City Government's Leprosy Hospital in 11 medical courses. The institute has now started admissions for diploma courses. The Food Inspector and Sanitary Inspector Course are offered first time in Sindh. Previously these courses were held in Lahore.
A year ago City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal had upgraded the Manghopir Leprosy Hospital to a General Hospital and Institute of Infectious Diseases. City Government also spent a huge amount of Rs 400 million on the building and Laboratory of this hospital. Last year more than one lakh people from the adjoining Goths benefited from the General Hospital in Manghopir.
Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has called the commencement of diploma courses in the Institute of Infectious Diseases a good omen and said that this would not only fulfil a long awaited dream of the citizens in Karachi but would prove equally beneficial to the people of whole Sindh province. He especially cited the courses of Food Inspector and Sanitary Inspector and said that the unavailability of these diploma courses in past had created problems for people in Karachi and whole Sindh, however, with the approval of courses including these two important courses by Sindh Medical Faculty at the Institute of Infectious Diseases would certainly able us to get a good number of well trained diploma holders in key medical subjects.
He said that the up gradation of Leprosy Hospital has proved useful for the poor and low income residents of adjoining villages who now have the facility of general hospital inside the premises of Leprosy Hospital.
Nazim Karachi said that this hospital is now providing the diagnosis and treatment facility for many infectious diseases like Hepatitis, Dengue Fever, Malaria, ailments of stomach and intestines, typhoid, cholera, skin diseases and tuberculosis under the same roof.
He said that we have completed this project in a very short time just like we did in other sectors of civic life. The Institute will also offer diploma course in Field Assistant, Leprosy and Ophthalmic Field Assistant, Dispenser, Leprosy Technician, Laboratory Technician, X-Ray Technician, Operation Theatre Technician, Physiotherapy Technician and Dental Surgery Assistant.-PR
