The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) would soon announce monthly reward scheme for tax officials' to give monetary rewards on the basis of achieving revenue collection targets. Sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that FBR's monthly reward scheme would be introduced in near future, which would link performance with monetary reward.
This would result in healthy incentive for competition among the workforce of field formations not only to compete but also to put extra efforts in achieving the laid down budgetary targets. The introduction of monthly reward scheme would be instrumental in achieving the revenue target of Rs 1,380 billion for fiscal year 2009-10.
The modalities of the scheme are being finalised under which the board would offer certain percentage of revenue collection as cash reward to the successful tax collectors. At the same time, the FBR would take administrative action against tax officials who would fail to achieve the assigned targets. This kind of initiative would encourage tax officials to show their best performance, which would create a competitive environment in the tax department.
Sources said that there is a possibility to give three salaries as incentive to the tax officials who would surpass over and above 5 percent of the total assigned target. In case of achieving target, the board may offer 2 extra salaries to the concerned officials. However, the figures have yet to be finalised by the tax authorities. Instead of second special pay package, a new monthly reward scheme is expected to be announced shortly, sources added.
