Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) witnessed 0.17 percent growth during the first two months of current fiscal year over the same period of last year, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). This growth was computed on the basis of production data of 100 items provided by Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC), the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Provincial Bureau of Statistics.
The FBS prepares Quantum Index Numbers of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (QIM) on the basis of production data of 11 items provided by OCAC, 35 by the Ministry of Industries and Production and 54 by Provincial Bureau of Statistics. The data provided by the OCAC showed 13.31 percent negative growth in petroleum products during July-August 2009 over the same period of last year.
The production data provided by Ministry of Industries and Production and Provincial Bureau of Statistics showed 1.43 percent and 0.55 percent growth respectively for the same period. The 13.31 percent negative growth in petroleum products was led by 39.42 percent negative growth in kerosene oil, 21.62 percent in furnace oil, 13.10 percent in High Speed Diesel, 28.87 percent negative growth in diesel oil n.o.s, 32.69 percent negative growth in solvent Naphtha, 2.84 percent in lubricating oil and 10.30 percent in LPG.
Jet fuel oil, motor spirit and jute batching registered 6.64 percent 0.62 percent and 25.71 percent growth respectively in petroleum products besides 17.51 percent by petroleum products n.o.s.
According to the data provided by Ministry of Industries and production, the production of cigarettes declined by 9.22 percent during the first two months of current fiscal over the corresponding period of last year, production of cotton yarn declined 1.35 percent, jute goods (total) 16.50 percent, Hessian 14.53 percent, sacking 17.15 percent and others 15.32 percent. The cotton cloth registered 0.79 percent growth.
The paper and board witnessed a growth of 3.17 percent, soda ash 8.41 percent, nitrogen fertilisers 2.65 percent and phosphate fertiliser 1.60 percent while cement sector registered 25.47 percent growth. Further analysis of the data in auto sector, negative growth of 27.76 percent in trucks, 46.07 percent in buses, and 43.77 percent in light commercial vehicles (LCVs) was witnessed.
The tractors, jeeps and cars, and motorcycles posted a growth of 27.83, 3.91 and 30.73 percent respectively during the period under review. Among steel items, pig iron, billets/ingots and sheets witnessed negative growth of 39.83 percent, 30.56 percent and 43.80 percent respectively during July-August 2009-10 over the same period of last year. The growth of 39.55 percent was noted in production of coke.
