After the arrival of about 1,800 Indian Sikhs, celebrations for Baba Guru Nanak's 541st birth anniversary climaxed on Sunday. Religious ceremonies commenced on Sunday morning at the Gurudawara Janam Asthan where Indian Yatrees were received by local administration and Evacuee Trust Property Board officials.
Sardar Jageer Singh, member Shurmoni Gurudawara Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar, told newsmen the India government had issued an advisory for its citizens, especially Sikhs, to not visit Pakistan because of security reasons, but they did not care about the warning and reached Pakistan to take part in the celebrations. He said he and his colleagues were satisfied with security arrangements made by the Pakistan government and the district administration.
The Yatrees will visit seven temples built in the memory of Baba Guru Nanak, including Patti Sahib, Ballila, Tenbu Sahib, Chatti Badshahi, Malji Sahib and Kiara Sahib and Gurudawara Janam Asthan, all located in the city.
Meanwhile, religious ceremonies of Akhand Pat and Shabad Keertan took place in the Gurudawara Janam Asthan. A silver Palky procession of the Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy book) will be taken out on November 2.
Meanwhile, a large number of Sikh and Hindu Yatrees arrived here by two special trains from Karachi and interior Sindh to participate in the celebrations. The Indian Sikh Yatrees will leave for Gurudawara Panja Sahibb, Hassanabdal, on November 3.
