The serious differences cropped up over the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) between Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) might lead the parties to part their ways in Punjab, where they are coalition partners in provincial government. "The controversy has put the partnership between the two parties in Punjab at risk," political circles said this while commenting over the ongoing row on NRO.
PML-N is flexing it muscles to go to any extent to block the passage of NRO from parliament, sources in PML-N told Business Recorder. "The PML-N is of the considered view that NRO is a document, which is devoid of moral, legal and political justification and has been rejected by Pakistani masses from the very beginning. That is why, even traditional allies of the government are reluctant to support it," the sources said.
PML-N leader Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal said with the passage of NRO, the respect of law would vanish and corruption become rampant in the country. Nevertheless, NRO, if passed would be another national tragedy after October 12, 1999, he added. According to him, NRO would serve corruption mafia as NOC and if it was not rejected, the democracy and economy would badly suffer in Pakistan and foreign investors would not come to Pakistan.
Secretary General PNL-N Overseas Wing Sheikh Kaiser Mehmood said that Mian Nawaz Sharif was upholding national aspirations at every forum. He said the PML-N leadership attached great importance to country's solidarity and national interests. Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab Zeb Jaffar MPA has said that the leadership of PML-N never compromised on national interest. She said that the PML-N has a clear-cut policy on different issues including NRO and Kerry-Lugar Law. Zeb Jaffar said President Asif Ali Zardari should return the powers usurped by Pervez Musharraf to parliament.
