Vice Chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) North Zone Mian Naeem Ahmad has said that the excessive yarn export was negatively impacting the Value Added Textile Sector, and yarn shortage in domestic market was leading to closures of knitwear, bed-wear, towel, garment, weaving and stitching units, which were the major source of livelihood to 1.5 million families of the country.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the major blow for hosiery and garments was that the foreign buyers were turning towards our competitors and Pakistani exporters were loosing export earning on one hand while loosing their credibility due to non-fulfilment of export commitment in international market on other.
Naeem Ahmad demanded of the government to impose 10 percent regulatory duty on yarn export and fixed the export quota for saving the smooth working of Pakistani textile industry and protect the industrial investment and livelihood of thousands workers.
He proposed that the spinning mills should be bounded for export of 21 percent yarn production, while remaining should be marketed in the local markets for fulfilment of the requirements of power looms, hosiery industry, sizing factories, bed-sheet manufacturers, garments and knitted weaving units.
He demanded of the government to immediately interfere in the matter of yarn crisis to save national exports of cloth, knitwear, bed-wear, towel, and garments etc. Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam, Dr Khurram Tariq Ex-Chairmen, PHMA, Mubeen Ahmad and other were also present.
