UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has described Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) role model for other countries of the world. While lauding the initiative as transparent, he termed the programme as instrumental to poverty alleviation.
Jean Morris Repat, UN Special Envoy conveyed these views of the UN Secretary General while talking to Farazana Raja, Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP. Farzana Raja congratulated Jean Morris Repat on assumption of the charge as UN Special Envoy and appraised him about various details of BISP and informed him that 2.2 million families have been benefited under the programme.
These families were not only being provided monthly income support but they will be able to avail other facilities ie skill development and health insurance etc during the next stages of the program, she added. She elaborated the details of "Waseela-e-Haq" programme.
The registered families under BISP are getting soft business loans of Rs 3,00, 000 through balloting and returnable in 15 years. Farzana Raja said that the significance of this programme was that the income support was being provided through the female head of the family. She informed Repat about the working of Benazir Smart card and said that it's a transparent way of money transactions.-PR
