An art exhibition of six internationally known artists Available Light was inaugurated at Alhamra Art Gallery on Thursday. The exhibition was curated by Dr Maureen Korp and the inauguration ceremony was attended by Principal Officer of the US Consulate Lahore Carmela Conroy and prominent art figures such as Salima Hashmi. Curator of the exhibition Dr Maureen Korp said that she had managed the exhibition without the support of government or any other organisation.
She said that Available Light, an art exhibition is mostly photo-based, including short videos and the "Available Light" as the curator writes in the accompanying exhibition catalogue, "is a photographer's term. It means seeing with light already there; using one's own eyes to see first then exposing the film Images made in available light sometimes become insight, the saving grace of version."
She further said that the situations which form the content of the six artists' work in "Available Light" derive in good measure, as the curator describes further: "...from post-World War II histories of immigration, dislocation, relocation, displacement, and the labels of citizenship. Curator Alhamra Art Gallery Tanya Suhail said that the month-long exhibition will be accompanied by workshops to be conducted by three of the artists.
