The balloting for DHA City was held at the Convention Hall of Defence Authority Country and Golf Club here on Thursday. Air Commodore Akmal Hussain, Base Commander PAF Base Faisal, who is also member of DHA Executive Board, conducted the ballot. The Administrator DHA, Brigadier Khalid Tirmizi, was also present on the occasion.
Applications for allotment of plots in DHA City were asked from general public on 28th July 2009. More than 40,000 people applied for residential and commercial plots in the scheme. Around 20,000 plots of different sizes have been allotted to people of different categories in the ballot.
All the handicapped persons both military and civil (121) who applied for the scheme were allotted plots without balloting. A modern, fool proof and error-free software specifically designed for the purpose was used for the balloting. The results were displayed on big screens for viewing by the participants of the ceremony.
The result has been posted on DHA's website www.dhakarachi.org and will also be available in branches of different commercial banks. Administrator DHA Brigadier Khalid Tirmizi in his address thanked the applicants for their overwhelming response for the project. He specially thanked the overseas Pakistanis for the tremendous interest shown by them by participating in a large number in balloting.
Brigadier Tirmizi said that last week the balloting had to be postponed due to detection of a flaw in data base of computer system at the eleventh hour. He said that DHA in no circumstances would ever compromise on transparency, credibility and authenticity of the system.
The Administrator further stated that DHA was mindful of the inconvenience caused to the people due to inevitable postponement of ballot last week which he said was regretted. He said that DHA City would be built as a modern residential estate encompassing the state-of-the-art town planning concepts and contemporary engineering practices.
Brigadier Tirmizi termed the project as a bold, formidable and splendid initiative of the present time. He said that the construction and development work of the project would start by mid 2011 and would be executed at top priority. The Administrator said that in a decade's time a modern mini city of Asia would emerge on Karachi's Skyline.
He said that an elegantly made Information Centre with display of maps and sketch of the area has been set-up at the project site on Super Highway to provide updated, intricate and comprehensive information about DHA City to the visitors. Brigadier Tirmizi concluded by saying that optimism, resilience and hope constitute the corner stone of DHA's new mega project. He said that the project would be completed in a befitting manner with the help, co-operation and hard work of DHA team.
