A two-day "Syngenta Rice Expo 2009" held at University of Faisalabad's Post Graduate Agricultural Research Station recently. During the Expo new technology and advances in crop protection and crop enhancement were showcased. The Expo, which was organised by Syngenta Pakistan Limited in collaboration with Faisalabad University, was attended researchers and farmers.
Country Head of Syngenta, Saqib Habib, speaking on the occasion said that technology had a key role in increasing rice productivity. "Traditional methods of agriculture cannot increase the productivity that is needed to ensure food security in Pakistan. With less land available for agriculture production and less water for irrigation means we must grow more from less. With access to new technology, farmers can significantly increase productivity and improve returns while ensuring sustainable production", he said.
The show provided the opportunity to the participants to hear from innovative growers and industry leaders from across Pakistan, share their experiences and knowledge on the role of technology in improving rice productivity.
