The rupee was in a commanding position as it posted fresh gains of 12 paisa versus dollar in a single day rally on the interbank market on Friday for buying and selling at 83.55 and 83.60, dealers said. In the final Asian trade dollar sat tight as investors held off taking new positions before a US jobs report likely to signal the strength of economic recovery, while the Australian dollar firmed after its central bank foresaw gradual rate rises.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also maintained its surge, rising five paisa in relation to the US currency for buying and selling at 83.90 and 84.00, dealers said. The rupee continued its fall versus euro, falling 15 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 124.10 and Rs 124.60, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed strength and further improved its value by ten-paisa against the US dollar in the open currency market on Friday. The dollar, because of a decline in its demand, could not maintain its last day position and depreciated against the local currency.
The dollar kept on sliding down during the day and finally finished at Rs 83.80 and Rs 84.10, as its buying and selling rates against the overnight closing of Rs 83.90 and Rs 84.20, respectively, the currency dealers said. On the contrary, the rupee remained under pressure and continued downward slide against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 137.20 and Rs 138.00, as compared to Thursday closing of Rs 136.50 and Rs 137.80, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar showed an increase of 10 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday. The dollar opened at Rs 83.90 (buying) and Rs 84.00 (selling) against the rate of Rs 83.80 (buying) and Rs 83.90 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 83.90 (buying) and Rs 84.00 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.00 (buying) and Rs 138.20 (selling) against the previous rate. British currency did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.00 (buying) and Rs 138.20 (selling).
