Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) has demanded of government to check sky rocketing price hike of essential commodities of life, get reopened the closed mills and raise employment opportunities for the youth, bring the labour laws in conformity with ILO conventions, raise wages of the workers and take measures for rehabilitation of the affected people of Swat and Waziristan.
These demands were raised in the meeting of Executive Board of Pakistan Workers Federation held on Friday at Bukhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore. This meeting was participated by members of the Executive Board and Trade Union representatives from all over the country, which was addressed by Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary and Chaudhry Talib Nawaz, President of the Federation.
The House passed various resolutions urging the government to rocketing price hike of essential commodities of life which has made it hard for the working class and common man to make both ends meet, get reopened the closed mills in order to restore employment of workers, raise employment opportunities for the youth entering into labour market at 1.5 million every year, bring the labour laws including Industrial Relations Act, 2008: Section 27-B of the Banking Companies Ordinance and Presidential (Special Powers) for Removal from Service Ordinance, 2000 in conformity with ILO Conventions ratified by the Government of Pakistan, raise wages of the workers particularly industrial workers whose wages have not been enhanced in the current budget and fix minimum wages as Rs, 10,000 as well as other public sector workers.
They also condemned the killing of innocent people by the terrorists and appealed to all patriotic forces to forge unity to defeat the terrorists and urged the government to take measures for rehabilitation of the affected people of Swat and Waziristan.
