The Punjab government has allocated special funds to make security arrangements at the government colleges and the principals of the colleges have been accorded permission to utilise the available funds by relaxing financial procedures. Moreover, Rs 5 million has been given to commissioner of each division as supplementary grant to meet any demand by the government colleges.
Talking to the media Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain said these funds had been placed in Special Drawing Account of each Divisional Commissioner for utilisation to the security measures at government colleges. The Divisional Commissioner expressed his resolve that the funds would be utilised efficiently.
He said aspirant college would submit a proposal to the Commissioner for the grant of funds which would be approved after due consideration. He further said a special committee would be constituted comprising principal, two senior most faculty members of the institution and a representative from concerned DCO Office not below grade 17 to supervise the process.
The government had allowed educational institution to utilise all the funds available in the accounts of educational institutions without adopting routine financial procedure, he added.
The Commissioner said these funds would be utilised for raising boundary walls to minimum eight feet, fencing it with razor wire, installation of barriers at entry/exit points, installation of walk-through gates along with deployment of metal detectors for physical checking of entrants, deployment of trained security guards and installation of CCTV cameras along with provision of generators/UPS for ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
