Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister, Sharmila Farooqui has called for building the country according to the aspirations of great poet of subcontinent Allama Muhammad Iqbal and said that this could be achieved by stopping armed militants from imposing their interpretation of Islamic ideology and morality through guns.
Paying glowing tributes to great poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal on his 133rd birthday anniversary, Sharmila Farooqui asked the nation to develop unity among their ranks and rise against extremists and terrorists for restoring durable peace in the country.
She said that Allama Iqbal gave a lesson of peace and harmony through his poetry, so we should follow his poetry teachings for the good of people and the country, which would be indeed a best tribute to Allama Iqbal.
The advisor said, "Islam has been ruthlessly exploited by some extremists who want to capture political power and thereby dictate their political and moral agenda on the people through the use of force in the name of Islam."
The terrorist in a bid to gain their nefarious designs are killing innocent people through bombings but the present government under the dynamic leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is committed to fighting them till the full peace is restored in the country, she said.
"The terrorists could not discourage government's resolve to bring peace and prosperity in the country, she added.
The advisor said that the government is also taking steps to safeguard IDPs affected by ongoing military operation in tribal areas. Sharmila Farooqui said that ongoing wave of attacks by militants is a complete negation of Allama Iqbal's understanding of Islam and his vision of Pakistan, which cannot be allowed at any cost. "Iqbal's writings aroused a sense of self-respect, self-realisation and determination among the Muslims." She said Iqbal's vision could guide the people even today in their quest for progress and prosperity.
"Allama Muhammad Iqbal was a man of great vision and talent. Allama Iqbal was initially a staunch supporter of single state of Muslims and Hindus, though later he went on to preach the need for a separate Muslim state as an independent entity," she informed.
The advisor stressed the need for imbibing Allama Iqbal's teachings and moving forward to steer the nation out of the present crisis.
