Interior Minister Rehman Malik told National Assembly on Tuesday that Pakistan would receive the first consignment of scanners from China on November 15. Responding point of orders raised by parliamentarians, the Minister said that the government wants to ensure security and protection of people.
"We want to enhance the capability of law enforcement agencies and strengthen the monitoring and checking system," he added. He said that CCTV cameras would be installed at the major entry points of main cities of the country. "We have a system in place at airports where maximum scanning of passengers and other sensitive places under prescribed rules are benign ensured," he said.
Malik said criticism is very easy but the members should acknowledge the performance of security agencies despite paucity of funds. "We have to cut our development funds to build the capacity of the security agencies", he added. The minister requested the Chair to arrange an in-camera meeting of the House, wherein he would apprise the members about the security concerns.
Responding point of orders raised by MNAs Noor Alam, Amir Muqamand Pervaiz Khan Advocate, Malik said that law and order was a provincial subject and the federal government had given policy to the government, adding that appropriate measures are being taken to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He said on the directives of the Prime Minister, the provincial governments would establish Shuhada Fund for which the seed money would be given by the federal government and details of the fund would be made public within a week.
