Renowned textile exporters Mian Mukhtar Sheikh has resigned from the Chairmanship of Faisalabad Garment City. In a meeting here on Thursday, he said that he has resigned because of his business engagements. He also refuted the rumour of his arrest and charges levelled against him. He said that he has privilege to complete the project of Faisalabad Garment City in a record period and with minimum expenditures.
"Similar projects in Karachi and Lahore are still incomplete despite of spending huge funds", he added. "I worked hard with utmost dedication". He said that Chairman Karachi and Lahore are getting Rs 600,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively as monthly salary but I have not charged even a single penny in this respect. For Faisalabad Garment City, we saved millions of rupees by purchasing land at below than official rates, he added.
He explained that the official rate of land at that time was Rs 42,00,000/= per acre while we purchased said land at the rate of Rs 24,59,000/= per Acre. He added that we have also saved millions of rupees by reducing our expenses. He said that all the expenses of FGC have been discussed and unanimously approved in the annual general meeting. He said and added that it was due to the dedicated efforts of Board of Directors and other staff members that first multi- storey block of Faisalabad Garment City has become functional. He further said that Board of Directors of Faisalabad Garment City take important decisions collectively. He said that leading businessmen from private sector are included in Board of Directors in addition to Government functionaries from various concerned ministries.
Continuing Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh said that export of his personal company is touching Rs 6 billion mark. I am fully satisfied with the performance of the company, he said. However I want to dedicate some of my precious time on public welfare projects, he said. In this connection, "I am already undertaking education and welfare related projects", he added. He said that I am pressurised to withdraw my resignation; however I will take final decision in consultation with my friends and well-wishers.
