The Prime Minister of Belgium, Herman Van Rompuy has called upon India and Pakistan to hold constructive dialogue for resolution of the Kashmir dispute. According to Kashmir Media service, the Prime Minister in a letter addressed to Executive Director of Peace and Justice Forum (PJF), Mushtaq A. Jeelani, said that Belgium favours amicable solution of the Kashmir dispute.
He stressed the need for transparency and to allow the international media and human rights organisations to visit Jammu and Kashmir. "I will of course be keeping a close watch on any further developments", he added.
The Prime Minister said, "We will make sure that the Kashmir dispute remains on the European Union agenda, and continue to stress the need for a common European position on the principles governing basic human rights for the Kashmiri people in accordance with international law." In his letter to the Prime Minister of Belgium, Jeelani had expressed serious concern over the massive human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and had sought his help in resolving the dispute.
