Naib Nazim Karachi, Nasrin Jalil has said that due to transfer of Secretaries of 134 union councils the funds of these UCs could not be acquired. She said these secretaries pertaining to 134 out of 178 total UCs have also not been replaced and as a result of this situation, the entire development process in these UCs has frozen and UC Nazims have become helpless to provide facilities to people.
She was addressing the Nazims of various UCs at her office here on Friday. Nasrin Jalil said an appropriate solution to this situation would be that the local government immediately withdraw the orders issued in this regard to relieve the UCs of the problem.
She requested the provincial government to let the secretaries already working in the UCs to continue till the end of the year. UC Nazims apprised the Naib Nazim about the situation and the difficulties being faced as a result of steps taken by the Local Government Board.
They pointed out that issuance of such orders was against the public interest and it is badly affecting the day to day working of UCs including matters regarding marriage and divorce, birth and death registration besides provision of day to day basic facilities.
They informed that salaries of office staff have also stopped because of non-release of funds. According to them they were unable to even replace the bulbs and covers of gutters because of transfer of secretaries and non-operation of funds and this situation can become a source of grave inconvenience for people during Eid-ul-Azha.
