This is with reference to the letter titled "Where's the spirit of the nation?" by Sirajuddin Aziz. I have a point to make on this issue. The nation is not responding to such barbarism by the Taliban and they responded to much smaller issues with the Long March, civil society and lawyers coming out.
I would say this is primarily the failure, or may I say the bad intention of the politicians and media. They highlighted the mistakes of the so-called dictator they didn't like, but never appreciated the good work done by him. The politicians and media never supported him for a national cause to fight terrorism.
After so many years of war, now when the terrorists are hitting us badly, we have started to wonder, as individuals, where the nation's spirit is on this issue. But before, the politicians and the media never highlighted this issue as a major issue, because the dictator used to do so. He thought it was a national cause, these stakeholders never made the public aware of it for so many years.
How can we now expect a sleeping nation to become aware of this matter immediately, when the politicians and the media had drugged the nation in the first place? The nation is trying to awaken from its sleep.
Had the politicians and media supported the previous government, at least on this issue, the nation would have been much more aware about it and would have responded to it. It is still time that politicians and the media play their role to lead the nation in these most difficult times.
