Around 5,000 soccer fans from across Italy marched through the streets of Rome on Saturday to protest against the introduction of electronic supporter cards. The government, prompted by years of soccer violence, wants to make it compulsory for fans to carry the card to away matches so authorities can better track troublemakers.
Fans say their basic human rights will be restricted by the cards, which could come into force next season after teams said a January introduction was too early.
