The Turkish state grain board TMO has sold 100,000 tonnes of red milling wheat, 75,000 tonnes of white milling wheat, 100,000 tonnes of white feed barley, 25,000 tonnes of durum wheat and 25,000 tonnes of white feed wheat in an export tender, European traders said on Monday.
The tender for the sale and export of the grain closed on Thursday. The highest price for the red milling wheat was $170 a tonne fob for 25,000 tonnes and the lowest was $152.38 a tonne fob. The top price for the white milling wheat was $170.60 a tonne fob for 25,000 tonnes and the lowest price $155.38 a tonne fob. White feed barley went for $147.88 a tonne fob for 10,000 tonnes at best with a lowest price of $146.56 a tonne fob.
The highest price for the durum was $224.81 a tonne fob for 15,000 tonnes and $224.00 a tonne was paid for the remaining 10,000 tonnes. The white feed wheat was all sold at $155.38 a tonne fob. The grains will be exported from Turkish ports in December and January.
Turkey, traditionally self-sufficient in food and a major grain exporter, saw its grain crop hit by drought in the last two years, prompting it to heavily import grain during 2007 and 2008. An improved crop this year means the country has returned to the global market as an exporter in past months.
