The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed Sindh Police to submit complete report within two weeks on the alleged abduction of oil contractor Sher Afzal Khan Mengal, who transported oil to Nato and Isaf forces in Afghanistan. A three-member bench comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Sair Ali heard the case.
Changaiz Khan, son of Sher Afzal Mengal appeared before the court in-person and alleged that his father was picked up by security agencies in official vehicles on July 22 after he landed at Karachi airport. The court directed SP (AVCC) Karachi Farooq Awan and CCPO Wasim Ahmed to appear before the court on next date of the hearing. The bench also directed Changaiz Khan to provide material to police officials investigating the case.
Appearing on notice, IG Sindh Salahuddin Babar Khattak submitted that the accused officials were professionals and had nabbed number of terrorists recently. He further informed the court that they had not received any information about Mengal's arrest by law enforcing agencies. "We admit that we could not trace him out, we used CCTV footage of airport and main roads including Shahra-e-Faisal but could not find him", he said.
He further said the investigation process was in progress and the registration number and designs of official vehicles, through which the contractor was allegedly abducted, were probed but they did not exist. Meanwhile, the court directed the Sindh Police to expedite the investigation process for recovery of Sher Afzal Mengal and submit a comprehensive report before the court within two weeks.
