Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has so far arrested 3,472 culprits involved in 3,398 cases of various crimes on highways this year. Moreover, PHP seized 19 Kalashnikov, 274 guns and rifles, 472 pistols and revolvers, 469 magazines, 65,171 bullets and 2,286 cartridges in 675 cases. Also 44 stolen cars, jeeps, truck, tractor and motor cycles, along with wood worth 3.8 million, 53 mobile phones and 88 cattle were also recovered.
In addition, PHP faced 56 encounters with criminals on highways and arrested 98 proclaimed offenders. An official of PHP stated this on Wednesday. He further said that more than 0.1 million commuters were provided on the spot assistance, while 484 lost children were recovered and handed over to their parents.
15,671 encroachments were removed from the roadsides. 4,572 injured were given first aid on the spot in various accidents. PHP recovered 203 tones wheat, 484 tones flour, 52 tones chemical fertiliser and 20 tones sugar and smugglers were arrested.
