Two percent quota fixed for disabled persons: Punjab made 5,941 appointments, LHC told
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday was informed that the provincial government has made 5941 appointments in 27 departments under two percent quota fixed for disabled persons. Additional Advocate General Punjab, Muhammad Hanif Khattana appearing before the court of Chief Justice in a suo motu case, further informed that the government would appoint more disable persons soon against 1008 vacancies in 14 different departments.
He also informed the court that 2092 disable persons have also been adjusted in private sector. The court, therefore, directed the law officer to submit a detailed report after filling rest of the vacancies till next date of hearing on December 11. Chief Justice Khawaja Sharif, during last date of hearing, had directed the federal and provincial governments to submit their reports after making appointments under the quota.
Chief Justice had taken the suo moto notice during a ceremony, held by Punjab Welfare Trust for the disabled. He was the chief guest in the ceremony held on May 29. During the ceremony, it was brought to his notice that the central as well the provincial government have fixed two percent quota for employment of disable persons in government departments, but the departments were not following this rule.
