Partly Facetious: Gilani has taken on more than he can chew

"Prime Minister Gilani says that if his wife is an NRO beneficiary he will resign."
Published November 21, 2009

"Prime Minister Gilani says that if his wife is an NRO beneficiary he will resign."
Silence.
"Did you hear what I said? The Prime Minister has said he will resign from his office if his wife's name is in the list of NRO beneficiaries."
"I can't understand it!"
"What is there to understand?"
"Why would he say such a thing?"
"Because insisting that the Islamabad court hears charges against him after he became the Prime Minister even though the court ruled that the cases against him stood quashed after the NRO..."
"But why would he say it?"
"He believes that as he was acquitted from the courts, Dogar held sway at the time, and why are you shaking your head?"
"I simply cannot understand it."
"Well his wife borrowed crores out of state-run banks and we really don't know how much she paid back but about two months ago she made a deal, details of which were not disclosed, but indications are that she did not pay back all that she borrowed."
"And you reckon that's using undue influence?"
"Well it does beg the question but what I don't understand is why did the Prime Minister say what he did?"
"You mean why doesn't he take those who made this false charge to court?"
"That too but you do realise he may have taken on more than he can chew at present.'
"Don't under-estimate how much he can chew!"
"This time he has taken on much more than he can chew. He has taken on all NRO beneficiaries?"
"You mean we may begin to contrast his attitude with President Zardari's and..."
"Hey President Zardari has hit rock bottom as far as lack of popularity is concerned so it won't matter to him."
"But the President won't be happy with the Prime Minister for saying what he did."
"I wouldn't be either if I were him; but luckily he was out of the country."
