SAFF Champio-nship has become a very important platform for budding and aspiring footballers in the region, hoping to make it big in international football. It is dubbed, as World Cup of South Asian nations. We are looking forward to earn gold in this biennial event and despite the financial constraint we left no stone turned to bring glory from Dhaka with five -nation tour of Nepal, Colombo, Thailand, UAE and Qatar.
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President, Faisal Saleh Hayat stated this here on Friday. 'We stand a pretty good chance to inscribe our name on the cup,' he added. In order to provide tough preparation to the national team, we provided George Kottan, who has taken over the reins of National team from 20 February 2009, all the support he asked.
"We gave Austrian-based person tour of Europe to spot overseas player and not less than five event in nine month, and it is first time in the 62-year history of PFF that so many events were provided for getting possession of the title of an event," he added.
It may be noted that Pakistan is currently at Dubai to play two practice matches, followed by Qatar's journey where four such matches have been scheduled. SAFF championship is eagerly waited show with a hefty bounty at stake for the national teams of South Asia.
Talking about FIFA World Ranking of eight participants, Faisal said, "the ranking was merely on paper and ground reality was different. A total of seven tournaments were played in the past and India, Sri Lanka Bangladesh, Maldives are the only four nations that won the tournament.
