Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Parvez Ashraf on Sunday visited the 220 MW combined cycle Korangi Thermal Power Plants and later talking to media said that our plan is to make efficient use of gas by using modern technology. He said that plans are afoot to replace generation plants with modern state-of-the-art plants.
The minister said that the government is using all resources to generate maximum electricity so that power demand of Karachi, which is the nerve center of Pakistan, is met with.
He informed that upgradation of system in 18 towns is going on and four of them have been taken up as model towns and their system upgradation will be completed by June 2010. He said that new power plants are being set up in the interior of Sindh and particularly in Naudero and Dadu. Replying a question about rental power plant, he said that the 232 MW plant from Turkey will arrive next month and after necessary connectivity the power supply to Karachi will start.
Earlier, Arshad Zahidi, Head of Generation and Transmission KESC briefed the Minister during visit to the plants. CEO KESC Tabish Gauhar was also present on the occasion.
