Two sugar mills owners have approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the Punjab government seizing sugar from their premises beyond 30 percent limit, as settled in the Supreme Court. The petitioners, owners of Brothers Sugar Mills and Gunj Shakar Sugar Mills contended that it was settled between sugar mills owners and government that mills would provide 30 percent of their production at Rs 40/Kg for public, while the 70 percent sugar was to be supplied for commercial usage.
They said secretary food had written a letter to them to supply more sugar and they have given up to 43 percent of their production but the government is still demanding more sugar. They alleged that officials of city government are minting money as they are selling all the sugar at commercial rate. They therefore prayed to the court to restrain government from taking any coercive measures against them for demanding more than required quota.
