US government wants to strengthen relations with the people of Pakistan and it has a firm commitment to help Pakistan in power generation sector and soon Karachi will become self-sufficient in this regard. American companies can also provide technology to upgrade dairy products processing sector of Pakistan.
Stephen G Fakan, the US Consul General Karachi, said this in a meeting with the members of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) here on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Marry Elizabeth, US Economic Officer, Dawn Schrepel and Masooma Lotia. Stephen G Fakan also suggested that HCCI could bring forward talented youth through scholarships at US Universities where they can be trained for latest technology and American Consulate will help them in this regard.
He also said that innovation and awareness about modern technology are indispensable for meeting international standards in services and manufacturing sectors. Earlier, Azizuddin Arain, President HCCI, in his welcome address said that Pakistan's economy is coming back on track through the co-operation of American government improved Pak-American bilateral trade relations are the need of the hour.
He invited US companies to initiate joint-venture projects in power generation, construction, coal mining and food processing sectors at Hyderabad. He also said that there is huge potential for Pakistani products in American markets and the trade forums in both the countries should emphasise on increasing the bilateral trade. Masood Pervez, Former President HCCI, said that Hyderabad is the trade hub of Sindh and expressed the need of trade and not aid from the American government.
He also said that we need access in American markets to improve the economy of Pakistan through trade. Dr Zulfiqar Yousfani said that Hyderabad is more peaceful place than Karachi in terms of better law and order situation. "That's why we are inviting American companies to start projects in our city", he added.
Turab Ali Khoja expressed his concerns about the need of investment in power generation and oil and gas sectors by the American government. Abdur Razzaq Memon said that American companies should invest in dairy products processing sector and transfer modern technology to Pakistan. Vice President HCCI, Ikram Rajput; Emmad Siddiqui, Shaif Ahmed Qureshi, Zaheer Jan, Muhammad Altaf Memon, Muhammad Idrees Memon, Shoukat Khayam and others were also present on the occasion.
