Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation (DGI&I) on Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle a huge consignment of heroin at Karachi Airport and arrested a man. According to sources the action was taken on a tip-off that a consignment of 3.1 kilograms of heroin was being sent by M/s N S International, C-356, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block No 8, and cleared by M/s Falcon Traders (CHAL No 244), Karachi.
The staff of the Regional Office, Air Freight Unit (AFU), Karachi, intercepted a carton of bedsheets weighing 20 kilograms non-commercial value (sample), destined to Cape Town, South Africa via Dubai through Emirates Airline Flight No EK-605 under Air Way Bill No 176-1446 7316, consigned to Jajan Patel, Cape Town.
The said carton, sources said, had been allowed loading by the Customs and cleared by Anti Narcotic Force (ANF). At the time of interception, the carton was lying at apron QIAP, Karachi. Later, scanning confirmed the authenticity of the information. When the carton was examined, they said, at least 23 printed cotton bedsheets, containing 206 capsules and one plastic bag of heroin powder, weighing around 3.100 kgs, was recovered.
The consignment has been seized for violation of the enabling provisions of the Control of Narcotic Substantiate Act, 1999, followed by arrest of Muhammad Javed Khan S/o Muhammad Amin Khan, representative of M/s Falcon Traders. Sources said an FIR was being lodged and a detailed report will be prepared in due course of time after preliminary investigation.
