The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday dismissed two identical petitions presented by two sugar mills owners praying to restrain Punjab government from seizing sugar beyond 30 percent of their production limit for the general public. The court while dismissing the petitions observed that the LHC has no jurisdiction to interfere in the matter pending with the Supreme Court.
The petitions were filed by the owners of Brothers and Gunj Shakar Sugar Mills. Petitioner's counsels contended that it was settled before the Supreme Court between sugar mills owners and the government that mills would provide 30 percent of their production at Rs 40 for common peoples and rest of 70 percent sugar was to be supplied for commercial usage.
They said secretary food had written a letter to them to supply more sugar and they have given up to 43 percent of their production but the government was still demanding more sugar. They requested the court to restrain government from taking coercive measures against them.
