The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has constituted a four-member committee to remove all reservations on the establishment of 'Inland Revenue Service' (IRS) group. This was decided in a meeting, hastily convened by FBR Chairman after receiving strong reaction from the customs group.
The committee, comprising two officials each from customs and income tax groups, would assess all pros and cons regarding the prospects of customs group after establishing the IRS group, and would suggest best options to resolve the issue, sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
They said that Pakistan Customs and Excise Officers Association (PC&EOA) late on Saturday threatened the FBR to suspend operations at all ports, if their demands were not accepted. They demanded to take the association's representatives on board in the decision making process of IRS group.
They said that the matter in this regard was sub judice but the board had violated the court's decision by issuing three notifications. Therefore, the PC&EOA had expressed resentment in that way. They were optimistic about the decision made by the chairman, saying that the committee would definitely find the way out to resolve the issue.
