The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq briefed a European Union delegation about the gross human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. According to Kashmir Media Service, the delegation comprising New Delhi based diplomats, Olof Lindgren, Ms Daniele, Lon Dela Riva, Jean M Debouller and Oscar Schlyter, met the APHC Chairman in Srinagar.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged the delegation that the European Union must play an effective and substantive role in resolving the Kashmir dispute. He said that it had become imperative for the peace and security of South Asia that Pakistan and India resumed their stalled dialogue process. The delegation assured the APHC Chairman that it would fulfil its responsibilities towards resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris' aspirations.
The Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir in a statement strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of the party leaders including Masarrat Alam Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Mir and Abdul Ahad Parra. Prominent Kashmiri human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, led a sit-in at Pratap Park in Srinagar to draw world attention towards the miserable plight of the illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyet activists.
