Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister, Ms Sharmila Farooqui, has said that with the passage of two bills about domestic violence and harassment of working women from National Assembly, the women would consider themselves more secure than ever before and a security awareness will be build up in them. She said this while talking to a delegation of Aurat Foundation, led by Shirin Khokhar which called on her here on Wednesday.
Sharmila pointed out that UN internationally observes November 25 as the day of end of violence against women and on this day importance is highlighted for taking all possible measures to create awareness and consciousness among people against incidents of violence against women.
She said that Pakistan Peoples Party wrote a history by passing the two important bills from National Assembly. "It had been a mission of carrying out such legislation for women and this was ensured by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani through their political acumen and leadership quality.
The Advisor pointed out that in the past, the women had to undergo violence and harassment at home and at their work places because of lacking legislation in this regard. But, now the elements harbouring such tyrant and heinous tendencies will avoid indulging in such acts or else they will have to face courts and punishments, she added.
