Foreign Minister Qureshi will represent Pakistan at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on Friday.
The theme of CHoGM 2009 is "Partnership for a more Equitable and Sustainable Future" and will review global developments, promotion of Commonwealth fundamental political values, global economic situation and its impact on small states and vulnerable states, reform of international institutions, climate change and youth.
A communique at the end of the summit will be formally adopted as recommended by the Foreign Ministers. Queen Elizabeth II will host a banquet for the participants of the Commonwealth Heads of Government and delegation.
Apart from holding bilateral meetings with some of his counterparts Foreign Minister Qureshi during his stay will attend a reception jointly hosted by Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and Secretary General of Commonwealth, a sports breakfast organized by Commonwealth Games Federation and a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
An important feature of the Commonwealth programme for 2009 Heads of Government Meeting is a Youth Dialogue, which involves interaction with the representative group of youth leaders.
Pakistan looks forward to attending the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHoGM) in Trinidad and Tobago, a foreign office statement said.
"We reaffirm our commitment to the Commonwealth's core values of democracy, good governance and rule of law." Pakistan has always participated actively in the deliberations of the CHoGM in the past, and incorporation of its proposals in the final communique is reflective of keen interest and vigorous participation to the benefit of all members of the organization.
Pakistan would like to benefit from the resource base of Commonwealth and looks forward to benefit from various opportunities for productive exchanges offered by various Commonwealth institutions.
