Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government will spare no effort in looking after the families of Police martyrs and will bear all expenses on education of their children in any educational institution of their choice. He also announced provision of houses to the shelterless families of police martyrs.
He was addressing a function held for the families of police martyrs at Police Lines, Qila Gujar Singh, on Monday. Members of National and Provincial Assemblies, senior police officers, jawans and families of police martyrs were present.
The Chief Minister said: "The names of those who laid down their lives for the protection of life and property of citizens and elimination of crimes from the society will be written in golden letters in the history of the country and the whole nation salutes police martyrs on their courage and bravery. Ninety million people of Punjab have high expectations of police and it should pledge that it will prove to be a guardian of the people in the real sense."
The Chief Minister said that the serious problems being faced by the country including terrorism were result of ten years long rule of the dictator who gave preference to prolonging his dictatorship instead of safeguarding national interests. He said that institutions were destroyed while nepotism was promoted during this era. Due to wrong policies of military dictator, corruption has gripped the country.
He said that Bank of Punjab was robbed of nine billion rupees while corrupt contractors, officers and politicians looted national resources mercilessly. The plundered money was transferred to Dubai and palaces worth billions of rupees were constructed but due to crash in the market nobody is ready to purchase these properties and businesses today even for peanuts.
He said that time has come to transform Pakistan in accordance with the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal and ensuring equitable distribution of wealth for creating such an Islamic welfare society where equal rights and opportunities are available to every citizen for progress and development
Sharif said that Pakistan is facing a crucial situation and history is witness to the fact that only those nations pass through such phases successfully which have the courage to counter all challenges with commitment and determination and the jawans of Punjab police have proved that they are capable to cope with any situation.
He said that when Elite Force was established 12 years ago for eradication of heinous crimes no one could visualise that Pakistan will have to face serious problems but jawans of Elite Force foiled the designs of enemies of peace through performing their responsibilities in an efficient manner in this critical situation.
He said the bold and courageous jawans of Elite Force had proved that they can meet any challenge. Punjab government is utilising all available resources for the welfare of Police employees and not only their salaries have been doubled but the amount of financial assistance to the heirs of police martyrs has also been enhanced from Rs 0.5 million to Rs 3 million. He said that government will bear educational and medical expenses of the children of police martyrs.
The Chief Minister presented gifts to the families of police martyrs and laid a floral wreath at the memorial of police martyrs. Earlier, Inspector General of Police Tariq Saleem and Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Pervez Rathore also addressed the function.
