The City District Government Lahore (CDGL)'s Solid Waste Management (SWM) department kept the city clean during Eid holidays in the provincial capital by lifting of over 30,000 tons animal offal and waste. According to the available data and information from the city government, over 700 vehicles of the SWM department were deputed during the holidays to lift waste from the city and indeed they did their job with commitment, as no animal waste was seen on streets.
The SWM staffers remained vigilant and ready to serve the masses during the 'Eid days' and not only lifted the wastes from every nook and corner of the city but also properly dumped all the rubbish at Saggian and Shahdra areas.
The CDGL administration has made arrangements to avoid spread of any epidemic because of the animals' offal and other garbage. The CDGL teams after dumping the waste at the dumping sites sprayed pesticides to eliminate the chances of any untoward happening.
Every year the city generally presented an ugly look and during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays every street turned into a filth depot but for the last two years with the strict monitoring and instructions of Punjab government, the CDGL made special arrangements to clean the city from all rubbish. This year too the city was generally giving a cleaner look during Eid days due to the effective sanitation operation. However, complaints of improper sanitation arrangements were received from different localities, especially northern Lahore.
Meanwhile, burning of heads and feet of sacrificial animals along roadsides remained a major headache for CDGL officials. Although CDGL teams ensured that no such activity was seen on main roads, they failed to dispose off offal remains along roadsides in various residential localities. The Commissioner Lahore, DCO Lahore and senior officials of CDGL patrolled the city to monitor the cleanliness conditions.
