The rupee managed to hold the firmness against dollar on the currency market on Tuesday, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee shed one paisa against dollar for buying at 83.56 while, it did not move any side for selling at 83.60, they observed. In the second session of Asian trade yen fell across the board after the Bank of Japan (BOJ) said it would hold an extraordinary policy meeting, with the market speculating it was readying to take steps to support the economy.
The market is also waiting to see if Australia's central bank opts to raise interest rates for the third month running or holds off and keep rates steady at 3.5 percent.
OPEN MARKET RATES: In line with the interbank market the rupee retained its last weekend level in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 83.50 and 83.60, dealers said. The rupee gained 13 paisa versus euro for buying at Rs 124.52 and it also rose by 15 paisa for selling at Rs 125.00, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed stability and remained unchanged against the greenback amid low trading activity in the local currency market on Tuesday. According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at last Thursday closing of Rs 83.30 and Rs 83.60, as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar witnessed fractional change in its value during the day's trading but finally closed at the opening level, the dealers said.
However, the rupee recovered some its earlier loss and appreciated its worth against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 136.50 and Rs 137.50, as compared to previous week closing of Rs 137.50 and Rs 138.00, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was up by 25 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday. The dollar opened at Rs 83.00 (buying) and Rs 83.10 (selling) against the rate of Rs 82.75 (buying) and Rs 82.85 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 83.00 (buying) and Rs 83.10 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 135.20 (buying) and Rs 135.30 (selling) against the rate of Rs 134.20 (buying) and Rs 134.40 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 135.20 (buying) and Rs 135.30 (selling).
