Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan has asked the lawyers community to adopt responsible and harmonious attitude in all conditions and circumstances. "Simply adorning of black coat and holding a license to practice will not transform a person into a good lawyer. A lawyer's responsibilities as a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system, and a state citizen, should, in all conditions, be harmonious," Justice Raza said in a speech.
He was addressing inaugural ceremony of five-day Workshop on Trial Advocacy for Members of District Bar Association Rawalpindi, here at Federal Judicial Academy. Justice Khan, who is a senior judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan, further said that law is a noble profession and individual character of each lawyer manifests the sublime trait of nobility.
"In short, it is the personal role played by each lawyer that makes or mars this profession," he observed, adding that honesty, competence, hard work and trust are some of the necessary qualities, which a lawyer must aspire for. "Past history of judiciary stretched to more than a century would undoubtedly reveal that wherever and whenever the bar was honest, competent and saviours of Rule of Law, it resultantly produced an independent judiciary - without any agitation," he maintained.
Besides, he said that it was bounded duty of lawyer to use the law and procedures only for legitimate purposes and not to harass or intimidate others. "While challenging to rectify an administrative action, one has to be within the four corners of law and fair play, zealous without being jealous," the judge said.
Earlier Pervaiz Ali Chawla, Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy, said that Justice Sardar Raza Muhammad is a role model for all law professionals practising at district courts level because the honourable judge had started his career from the same level. He said that the workshop aimed at providing the participants an opportunity to share their views and experiences with each other, with the learned faculty members of the academy and the top personalities from the field of law and justice.
