An accountability court here on Tuesday extended physical remand of Sheikh Muhammad Afzal, his wife and two sons of Haris Steel Mills involved in Bank of Punjab's Rs 9 billion loan scam extended till December 05. Names of other accused are Fareeha Afzal, Haris Afzal, Hamza Afzal, Ali Ijaz, Abid Raza, Sheikh Munir, Sheikh Amjad, Naeem Siddique and Adil Khan.
Sheikh Afzal and Haris Afzal were arrested by a special team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from Malaysia with the help of Interpol. They had been escaped abroad to avoid facing NAB reference. On Tuesday, NAB council also filed an application before the court seeking permission to carry out "plea bargain" with the accused as the main accused Sheikh Afzal was ready to surrender his property to clear the liability of the bank.
