US copper futures rose to a new 15-month high above $3.27 a lb early on Wednesday, after data from the labour market added to a recent string of upbeat reports that reinforced optimism for economic and demand recovery in 2010. Copper for March delivery rose 3.30 cents to $3.2640 a lb by 10:33 am EST (1533 GMT) on the New York Mercantile Exchange's COMEX division.
Range from $3.2075 to $3.2730, a new high dating back to late August 2008. COMEX estimated futures volume at 12,448 lots by 10 am.
