The rupee was lower against dollar, it however, gained modestly versus euro on the currency market on Friday, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee shed five paisa at 83.60 and 83.65 in relation to dollar for buying and selling, they said.
In the final Asian trade dollar dipped against yen as traders took profits on the greenback's sharp rebound from a recent 14-year trough ahead of the US government's monthly employment report later in the day.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee drifted down versus the greenback, losing five paisa at 83.55 and 83.65 for buying and selling, dealers said. The rupee, however, managed to gain 45 paisa against euro for buying and selling Rs 124.65 and Rs 125.15, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained its worth against the greenback and the pound sterling and remained unchanged amid low trading activity in the local currency market on Friday. According to the currency dealers, the dollar, because of lacking buying support continued to maintain its last day position. The dollar was traded at Thursday closing rate of Rs 83.30 and Rs 83.60 on buying and selling sides, respectively.
However, some moneychangers quoted Rs 83.35, as dollar's buying rate while the selling rate was same at most of the money exchanges. Similarly, the rupee showed stability and stayed unchanged against the British pound. The pound commenced trading at last day closing of Rs 137.00 and Rs 138.20, on buying and selling counters respectively. The opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained firm against rupee at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday. The dollar opened at Rs 83.20 (buying) and Rs 83.30 (selling) against last rates of Rs 83 (buying) and Rs 83.10 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 83.20 (buying) and Rs 83.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 137 (buying) and Rs 137.10 (selling) against last rate of Rs 135.20 (buying) and Rs 135.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 137 (buying) and Rs 137.10 (selling).
