The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on December 03, for the lowest income group up to Rs 3,000, has registered decrease of 0.09 percent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 246.85, as against 247.07 registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. SPI for the combined group also registered negative trends by 0.01 percent as it went down from 234.60 in the previous week to 234.58 in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 11.78 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs 3001-5000, Rs 5001-12000 and above Rs 12000 decreased by 0.20 percent, 0.23 percent and 0.35 percent, respectively. During the week under review average prices of 6 items registered decrease, while that of 23 items increase with the remaining 24 items' prices unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included tomatoes, potatoes, egg hen (farm), onions, gur and rice basmati (broken).
The items which registered increase in their prices included, diesel, kerosene, petrol, LPG (11-kg cylinder), sugar, moong pulse (washed), bananas, red chillies, chicken (farm), mash pulse (washed), garlic, tea (prepared), cooked dal, vegetable ghee (loose), cooked beef, wheat (average quality), firewood, masoor pulse (washed), tea (packet), wheat flour (average quality), gram pulse (washed), milk (fresh) and rice (irri-6).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, beef, mutton, bread plain (mid size), milk (powdered), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), cigarettes, coarse latha, lawn, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, electricity bulb (60wats), match box, washing soap, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), telephone local call.
