Australia and Germany will meet in the men's Champions Trophy hockey final on Sunday after finishing first and second in the round-robin phase in Melbourne. The Australians finished top of the standings after thumping Spain while the Germans snuck into second place on goal difference despite losing 4-3 to Netherlands.
The Australians, chasing their 10th title overall and second in a row, piled on seven goals in the last 20 minutes to overwhelm a Spanish side that finished bottom of the six-team standings. Germany finished level on points with Netherlands but advanced to Sunday's showdown because of their superior goal difference. South Korea could have overtaken them into second place but suffered a surprise 4-2 loss to England, who won their first game of the tournament to avoid finishing last.
