The University of Sindh (SU) established online public access catalogue, providing facility of access of books of central library to the seminar libraries of the entire centres, institutes and departments, with availability of facility of desktop computers, on Tuesday.
In this connection, a presentation was arranged at the Allama I.I.Kazi Central, which was attended by Vice Chancellor SU Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Deans of the various Faculties, Directors and Chairpersons and seminar librarians of the institutes and departments, and the students.
On this occasion, Arif Ali Bhatti of the Department of Library Information Science and Archives Studies, in his presentation, highlighted main features of the online public access catalogue. He said that the searchers as well as students and scholars of teaching departments from their seminar libraries of institutes and departments could search the available books in the varsity library.
Books can be searched by entering name of author, subject or title of book and can be downloaded easily. He further said that data of all the books as well e-books and e-journals have been entered in library online catalogue. The catalogue also provides index of the data in alphabetic form, which is unique as can only be found in the SU.
The Vice Chancellor, who distributed documents of computers to the heads as well as to seminar librarians, appreciated efforts for providing online data and facility for the scholars and students. He said that it is necessary that the facility must be spread over to the concerned scholars and students that can get benefit of it. He advised all institutes and departments to use the facility maintain it and make available to the scholars.
