Partly Facetious: Asim Hussain the good doctor
"It was so good to see the President out and about."
"Going to see the injured after the bomb blast in a hospital is not out and about if you know what I mean. It is merely something that the leadership of any country should be seen to be doing if it wants to stay in the business of politics. But I agree he set a healthy precedent by making the visit."
"A healthy precedent that must continue!"
"Right and let me exhort the President to continue the precedent he has set for himself after over a year in power. However, I would also like to add that another healthy precedent during this visit was the presence of the Chief of Army Staff on the occasion of the President's visit and he was obviously deferring to the President as per the required protocol."
"I agree. One question: who were the Zardi's with the President?"
"It wasn't Rehman Malik who wouldn't have approved of the visit."
"Wasn't Malik present when Benazir was assassinated?"
"Don't go there and besides Malik remains a trusted Zardi."
"OK, who else was there?"
"Ahmed Mukhtar, the Defence Minister. This was appropriate as the President was visiting the CMH."
"Did I catch a glimpse of Dr Asim Hussain in the background?"
"Yes, you did and you may have caught a glimpse of the good Doctor during the President's visit to China as well but let me remind you..."
"No need he is a doctor and so it's OK for him to be present during the President's visit to the CMH. And let me remind you when he went to China with the President that too was appropriate as he is now the official physician of the President. Don't forget he has set a precedence by resigning from two rather high profile posts - with the status of the Federal Minister."
"I agree talking of precedence can we expect the trio namely the President, the Defence Minister and Dr Asim Hussain to visit the Lahore blast victims in the hospital?"
"Hey you Punjabis voted for the PML (N) you get Nawaz Sharif there if you can."
"Can we get Dr Asim only to review the hospital facilities in Lahore as he has experience of running successful health and medical education units, Dr Ziauddin Hospital and Dr Ziauddin Medical University?"
"Hey, you heard what I said."
