Two men from Russia's troubled Caucasian region were handed jail sentences on Tuesday for attacks in 1999 that left one dead and 50 wounded, the Interfax news agency reported, quoting court sources. The two men - one sentenced to 15 years, the other to 25 - were also ordered to pay the equivalent of 262,000 dollars to the relatives of victims of the attacks on a Moscow underground shopping centre and a hotel.
The court found that the men both organised and carried out the attacks. Police investigations showed the hotel owner had refused to pay protection money to Chechen extremists.
