Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin: BP Pakistan to spend Rs 210 million on public welfare schemes

A total amount of Rs 210 million spared from the production bonus of British Petroleum (BP) Pakistan, has been deposited in the accounts of district governments concerned and would be spent in Tando Mohammad Khan and Badin districts for public welfare schemes under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
This was stated by the Communications & External Affairs Manager Ms Sabeen Jatoi and Community Relation Administrator BP Pakistan Shaz Munir Keerio while briefing the local journalists of Tando Mohammad Khan and Badin districts at Dhabi Camp facility Friday.
They said that out of Rs 210 million, Rs 130 million would be spent in Tando Mohammad Khan district while the remaining 80 million on Badin district, and added that this amount has been spared only from the head of production bonus and that it was in addition to the amount of royalty for the area concerned.
They, on this occasion, apprised that the BP Pakistan has undertaken various public welfare oriented schemes under the recommendation of public representatives and local government specially to provide health, education facilities and skill developments of youths & organisations and schemes of income generating opportunities for the inhabitant of concession areas at the total cost of Rs 38 million during the year 2009.
Ms Sabeen Jatoi said that BP Pakistan, on the request of District Government Badin, has established thalassemia Care Centre at Badin at the cost of Rs 2.5 million and, on the request of District Government Badin, got the design of Civil Hospital Badin prepared on the pattern of Agha Khan Hospital, at a cost of Rs 6.9 million. Subsequently after implementation of the scheme by the government, the people of the area would be facilitated with standard medical facilities. Moreover, a standby gas generator was also being provided to the Civil Hospital Thatta at the cost of Rs 2.5 million. She said that BP Pakistan has also launched special training programme for Traditional Birth Attendance (TBA) to reduce the child and mother mortality ratio in the area and added that good result so far has been achieved.
She further informed that BP Pakistan has also launched schemes including goat farming for the poor women, facilities to the fishermen and reclaiming of saline land through biological methods, with a view to provide income generating opportunities for the local people.
At these moments, Shaz Munir Keerio informed that 81 percent employment in BP Pakistan has been made from concession and non-concession areas of Sindh to provide job opportunities to the local people, while only 19 percent technical staff recruited from other parts of the country. He said that the BP Pakistan is also facilitating owners of land, which was under the possession of BP Pakistan for its operational purposes. He said that BP Pakistan has also launched technical training programme for the local youths and capacity building of the NGOs and other organisations working for the amelioration of the common people. BP Pakistan will continue to serve the local people under the CSR, he added.
