The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is going to reconstruct the seven schools with dilapidated structures and provide missing basic facilities at nine other schools. The local government under the Sindh Education Reforms Program (SERP) would rebuilt the dilapidated schools and repair other nine affected schools in the city, officials sources told Business Recorder on Friday.
The sources said the provincial government has allocated Rs 94 million for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected schools in the province. They said nine schools would be reopened after the provision of missing facilities while the remaining seven schools would be reconstructed.
They said the government have chosen to repair/reconstruct only those educational institutions, where a large number of students attend classes on regular basis and the shabby structure has become threat to their lives.
The educational institutions, which would be rebuilt, include seven primary schools while four primary schools and five secondary schools would be provided with basic facilities, they added. Due to increase in population and unavailability of vacant piece of land in Lyari Town, the government has decided to expand the existing schools in the area by establishing additional rooms. The government would construct five class rooms in 270 schools of the town to lower the burden of crowded class rooms.
Sources said the expansion would be carried out under the Karachi Development Package (KDP) and the local government has allocated 82.906 millions for the establishment of extra classrooms. "All the male/female alimentary, primary and secondary educational institutions would be expanded under the KDP," they said.
